Juntando ao beber, comer e dormir (numa tenda) vêm as necessidades fisiológicas. Com o número 1 não há problema mas o número 2 já requer algum conforto. Mas mais que isto é voltar a entrar no ciclo da Natureza, pois passados 6 a 12 meses de decomposição, os nossos dejectos estão prontos para servirem nutrientes para a terra.
Existem versões bem sofisticadas com cabine de madeira ou torres feitas em cimento que poupam na manutenção mas decidi-me pelo simples: uma caixa com assento e um balde lá dentro. Para quem não sabe, depois de se usar, cobre-se a obra com serradura que, admiravelmente, absorve a humidade (e sem esta, não há cheiros).
A primeira experiência que tive com uma sanita seca foi em França na La Boriette (uma das primeiras quintas onde fiz woofing) e a experiência foi muito desconfortável. Bichinhos envolvendo um momento tão íntimo e uma porta que tenho ideia que não existia. De qualquer forma estou muito satisfeito com a que tenho agora!
Construção
Desmontei umas paletes da loja do meu irmão em tábuas (e não foi uma tarefa ligeira) e com elas fiz os lados da caixa. Comprei um tampo em madeira e o meu pai ficou de trazer o topo com um buraco no meio, de um carpinteiro. Imaginava uma placa simples com um buraco circular. Ele trouxe-me uma tábua toda polida com o buraco em forma de pêra tal e qual o do tampo. O preço: 40€! Aqui se evidenciam as formas diferentes de pensar entre mim e o meu pai. Andei eu a matar-me a desmontar paletes para fazer 4 faces e ele compra-me uma por 40€?! O balde que usei também era desperdício da loja do meu irmão.
Utilização
No Verão, em espaço aberto, as moscas são desagradáveis. Foi necessário adicionar um degrau para uma posição mais confortável e uma altura debaixo do balde para que os meninos não mijem fora dele. A minha mãe utiliza-a com regularidade e isso é a maior das vitórias. Agora, no Inverno, em espaço fechado, é muito agradável.
Melhorias
- Isolamento das fendas no tampo para impedir a entrada de insectos.
- Tubagem da caixa para o exterior para canalização dos poucos cheiros.
- Depósito para colocação de dejectos quando o balde está cheio para evitar o risco de contaminação e permitir a utilização localizada do composto.

There are very sophisticated versions with wooden cabins or cement towers that save on maintenance but I decided on the simple way: a box with a seat and a bucket inside. For those who don't know, after using it, the work is covered with sawdust, which admirably absorbs moisture (and without it, there are no smells).
The first experience I had with a dry toilet was in France at La Boriette (one of the first farms where I did woofing) and the experience was very uncomfortable. Little bugs involving such an intimate moment and a door that I believe it wasn't there. Anyway I am very hapy with the one I have now!

I dismantled some of my brother's pallets into boards (and it wasn't a light task) and made the sides of the box with them. I bought a wooden seat and my father was to bring the top board with a hole from a carpenter. I imagined a simple plaque with a circular hole. He brought me an all-polished board with the pear-shaped hole just like the seat. The price: 40 €! Here is how evident are the different ways of thinking between me and my father. I've been killing myself to dismantle pallets to make 4 faces and he buys me one for 40 € ?! The bucket I used was also a waste of my brother's shop.
Use
During summer, in open space, flies are unpleasant. It was necessary to add a step to a more comfortable position and a height under the bucket so that the boys don't pee out of it. My mother uses it regularly and that's the biggest victory. Now, in the winter, indoors, it's very pleasant.
Improvements
Cover of cracks in the seat to prevent the entry of insects.
Piping the box to the outside to channel the few smells.
Reservoir for droppings when the bucket is full to avoid the risk of contamination and allow localized use of the compost.
